"Why is the most beautiful song you ever heard coming
                                       from your  soup!?!"

A young lad tapped on the door to my home, as I opened it, he thrust a crumpled parchment at me. One grubby hand clutching the missive, the other held out, palm
up.

"The lady said you'd give me something for my time." I raised my brows in surprise and amusement.

"Yes, of course." I dug a few pennies from my pocket and dropped them in the upturned hand. He in turn released the parchment, I only barely caught it before it dropped to the floor.

"Tanks" he mumbled, turning away while counting the few coins.

I carefully unfolded the letter, scanning it's contents before resting my eyeson the signature. A smile crept across my lips. A name I knew well, a lady I had... admired... for some time. It was a request for my presence at a dinner party she was having. She required a reply from me, needing to know if I would accept.   Of course! I thought to myself. I looked up from the letter, seeing the boy standing a few feet away, he was waiting for my reply. I motioned him to enter and went to my desk. After several attempts at scribing a reply, I folded it, handed it to the boy, with a few more coins and directions to not tarry on his way.

The appointed day and time arrived, I donned my finest apparal, mounted my steed, Deer, and took off for her residence. Although she lived in another town, it did not take me long to traverse the distance.

She met me at her door, a shy smile on her face, and bid me to enter.

"We will eat very soon, please, have a seat at the table." Her voice, tho sultry, had a bit of a tremor in it. She lead me to her table, I saw only two settings there. Candles lit and wine poured. I knelt at my place, smiling to myselfas I watched her stir a steaming pot. She ladled a good bit into my bowl and smiled. "Please, begin, I will be joining you in a moment."

I took a good whiff of the steam, a variety of spices merging into a delicious smell, set my mouth to watering. I carefully set my spoon into the soup and stirred it a bit to cool it. A sound caught my attention, a soft, subtle voice. I looked up at the lady, she smiled at me, her lips not opening. The song was not coming from her. I stirred my soup again and again heard the words. I shrugged and lifted the spoon to my mouth, blowing on it, I set it to my lips and sipped it into my mouth. A blast of flavors stirred upon my tongue and I heard the singing again, clearer now.

o/` Nourish the soul
   and the heart shall follow.
   Where the heart leads,
   so shall love grow.  o/`

Puzzled now, I looked again at the lady, she was watching me intently. I looked down at my bowl and watched the broth ripple in time to the song. The voice lulled me and I listened to the beautiful voice singing the beautiful words. I barely heard the lady asking me if the soup was alright, if I was alright. I looked up at her, the song still mesmerizing me. I heard her say she had gotten the receipe from a lady friend, a shaman known for her delicate way in preparing foods. The word Shaman snapped me from my revelry. I stood quickly, nearly tipping the table over.

Startled, the lady came to me. "Are you alright? Is there something wrong with the soup?"
"No, no. The soup is delicious... it is also not for me." I looked down at the bowl, still rippling with the song I still heard. "I'm afraid I've lost my appitite."
She apoligized and promised to make it up to me. I bowed over her hand, kissing it slowly.
Outside, I breathed deeply of the night air, realizing how close I'd come to being under the influence of a love potion, errr, love soup? But, I must admit, it was a most beautiful song.
